Yeah, I haven't posted in a while as not much is going on. I just finished a domain transfer of eric1207.com to GoDaddy about ten minutes ago though - shouldn't change anything to users. I thought transferring a domain would be a lot harder, but it turned out to be pretty easy. It just took a day or two to go from eNom to GoDaddy. I'm transferring another domain (ericsvns.com) that I think will be a lot harder to do since it's coming from iPower (Tucows). Anyways, I got an external/portable hard drive the other day (at Circuit City). It's a Western Digital 120GB Passport. I kept reading reviews about different ones and a saw a lot about them "just dying" which kind of scared me, but I'm hoping for the best. Other that that, I've got a four-day weekend right now so that's pretty cool... Birthday/Christmas posted on 2007-12-01 at 9:58 PM I changed the countdown script to my 18th birthday (December 7th - the reason for "eric1207.com"). The layout of the site also changed to the red and green Christmas theme. The layout doesn't change until January which is when it will go back to the regular blue for quite a while. Ubuntu Upgraded, Fonts Downgraded posted on 2007-11-21 at 9:55 AM Well, I upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu yesterday. I like to wait because the repositories are always getting killed on the first few days and then there's bugs to get sorted out. I think it's really annoying that they do the every 6 months thing, but anyways... After I upgraded, I thought there was a problem with Firefox. Everything on my website was showing up in bold text. I thought it was my CSS too, but it shows up valid to W3. It turns out after searching and thinking about it for a few hours, it was the fonts. Somehow, during the upgrade, Tahoma.ttf (font file) went missing and all that was left was Tahoma_Bold.ttf - and my website CSS uses Tahoma for everything. I had to download Tahoma.ttf and add it back. If everything's bold for you too, you can grab Tahoma and Tahoma_Bold then move them to "/usr/share/fonts/" and run "fc-cache" in a terminal and it should be all better. On the other hand, you could just force my website to use some other easier font you already have. Network Trouble posted on 2007-11-14 at 4:28 PM Recently, my old Toshiba PCX2200 (ancient) cable modem died. Apparently, it's been "unsupported" by my ISP, Cox Communications, for years. We buy a new one (Motorola Surfboard is all anyone had) and it's not working. Of course, to install it, we have to use the Microsoft Windows-only CD-ROM that it comes with. I probably could've made the thing work without said software, but Cox prevents that. If you get a new modem, apparently you have to go out of your way to call Cox and "register" your new modem's hardware MAC address with them to use it. After that, the old one won't even work anymore. I was pretty annoyed by all that. For one, I don't know how anyone is supposed to know to just go and do this, but luckily the local computer store mentioned we may have to. I wonder how many people buy new hardware only to find it doesn't work and return it when their ISP is actually just blocking them from using it. Also, I guess we are paying not only for Internet, but to be baby-sat and bossed around by our ISP too... T-Shirt, Job? & Stuff posted on 2007-11-09 at 2:37 PM I got another t-shirt from UneeTee.Com of The Who drawn out with names of their songs and stuff, it was a winner for some contest and it was pretty cool, shipped fast too. My birthday is in about a month (hence "12/07") which is great, but I have no idea what I want or what to do. I think being 18 will be no fun... at all. I really want a drum set to learn with, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I applied for a job ("IT Specialist") recently... I doubt I'll get an interview, but who knows. Also, I had to buy new headphones for my iPod Nano since the original ones broke, I got the same pair for about $10 on eBay. I tried out some noise-cancellation headphones and wasn't into them because when walking down the street, I couldn't even hear cars coming until they were next to me. Nothing else going on, just bored... |
